Dark Dreams and Opportunities

Rainer Maria Rilke's philosophy, particularly in Letters to a Young Poet and The Book of Hours, emphasizes a profound connection between deep emotional, internal experiences (dreams, solitude, sorrow) and the necessity of taking concrete actions in the external world. He argued that one must "live the questions" and translate inner life into tangible form. Core Rilkean Principles on Emotion and Action:
"No Feeling is Final": Rilke urges acceptance of all emotions, both "beauty and terror" rather than avoiding fear or sadness. He believed that intense feelings, including loneliness, are not meant to be escaped, but rather, they are "work" occurring within us that helps us grow.

Turn Internal Dreams into External Reality
Rilke directly advises that one must not merely remain in a state of dreaming or "being-in-the-mood" but must actively "convert it all into things".

Fate as an Internal Creation: Rilke argues that destiny does not come from the outside, but emerges from within us. By deeply experiencing our inner lives (our "dreams"), we create our wn fate.

Want to Unfold"
Rilke encourages living without being "folded" (hidden or unauthentic), expressing a desire to act freely and truthfully.

Take Your Fate Upon Yourself
Rilke suggests bearing both the "burden and its greatness" of one's own life, without seeking external validation or rewards.
