The Sufi Master
The "Sufi Beloved" refers to the Divine (Allah) in Sufism, a mystical lslamic path where the core relationship is that of a lover (the Sufi) yearning for the Beloved (God) in an ecstatic journey of the heart, moving from separation (pain) to union (divine oneness), seeing the Beloved in all of creation, and experiencing this intense love, Ishq, as the ultimate spiritual goal and reality.
Once, a seeker came to a Sufi master and said:
I love God, but I'm afraid of what people will think if follow my heart.
The master smiled and took him to a market. There, he gave him a basket full of walnuts and told him to walk through the streets while the children pelted him with pebbles. At first, the seeker was embarrassed and angry, but soon he stopped caring about the laughter and insults.
The master then said: "When you no longer fear the stones of people's words, your heart wil be free to hear the secrets of God."
From that day, the seeker's love for God grew so deep, he forgot the world's opinions.
