Mammon (clickable)
"Mammon Illness" refers to the concept from Luke's Gospel (Luke 16:13) where "Mammon"—a personification of wealth and materialism—is described as a source of disorder and addiction that takes over people's lives when they prioritize it over God. It is a spiritual disorder characterized by greed, worry about money, materialism, and serving money as if it were a deity.
The thesis of our book is that the pursuit of money as an end in itself is bad not just because it is detrimental to happiness or the environment, but because it is absurd. It rests on a misunderstanding of the nature and function of money. Money is essentially a means to the good; to treat its accumulation as an ultimate goal is to fall victim to delusion.
